Easter Volunteer Needs

HOLIDAY VOLUNTEER NEEDS AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS

SIT-DOWN SITES

Kitchen (cook and serve) 10am – 2:30pm: Prepare the meal! The ham and turkey are pre-cooked so they just need to be sliced and reheated. Prepare and cook the potatoes, bread stuffing, veggies, etc. Package the home-delivered meals in takeout containers. Plate the meals for restaurant style serving (dining room volunteers will deliver to the tables).

Kitchen (cleanup) 2:30pm until the job’s done – about 5:00pm: Package the leftovers for elders to take home. Wash and sanitize the pots, pans and dirty dishes. Clean and sanitize the countertops. Anything that belongs to Little Brothers needs to be packed and returned to the office. Sweep and mop the floor before leaving.

Dining Room (setup) 11:30am – 1:30pm: Set the tables, decorate the dining room, prepare the beverages, set-up for the home-delivered meal distribution, assemble the home-delivered meals for delivery.

Dining Room (serve and cleanup) 1:30pm until the job’s done – about 5:00pm: Greet the guests and check them in, distribute home-delivered meals to volunteers, serve the meal (as plated by the kitchen crew), the host makes welcoming remarks and announcements throughout the meal, wrap and distribute flowers with leftover food. Collect dirty dishes and bring to the kitchen. Clean and sanitize tables. Anything that belongs to Little Brothers needs to be packed and returned to the office. Sweep and mop the floor before leaving.

Meal Delivery 1:30pm: Pick-up 2 or 3 meals to deliver to a home-bound elder. Plan to visit the elder for a short while – you may be their only visitor for the day.

Transport Guests, arrive at dinner site at 1:30pm: Pick up elderly guests and drive them to and from the dinner party. Once you are assigned passengers, be sure to call them the day before with your expected arrival time. When you pick them up, greet them at the door and assist to and from the vehicle.

Entertain 1:30pm: Provide musical entertainment as the guests arrive, take a break and enjoy the meal, play some more for the remainder of the dinner.

 

NURSING HOME SITE

Special Home Visit with Gift Delivery Pick up a gift and flower on your way to visit an elder at the nursing home. Plan to visit for about one-half hour. 

 

HOME MEAL DELIVERY SITE

HOLIDAY SITE MANAGERS

The Holiday Site Managers are responsible for ensuring the holiday party meets Little Brothers’ standards in providing a homemade meal to elderly friends. You can choose to manage the kitchen, the dining room or both. This position requires organization and the ability to delegate jobs to fellow volunteers.

Training: Holiday site management can be overwhelming but we will arm you with the necessary information. Attend a pre-holiday meeting and meet with the Program Director for individual instruction.

Time commitment: One holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter) per year.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Oversee meal preparation, serving and clean-up in the kitchen
  • Observe all food safety requirements
  • Oversee home-delivered meal distribution
  • Coordinate dining room set-up, serving and clean-up
  • Host! Make welcoming remarks and announcements throughout the meal.
  • Maintain records by signing-in guests and volunteers.
