SIT-DOWN SITE JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Cook 9am – 1:30pm: Prepare the meal. The meat is pre-cooked so it needs to be sliced and reheated. Prepare and cook the potatoes and other sides. Plate the meals for restaurant style serving (servers will deliver to the tables). Package up leftovers. Must be age 13 and older to work in the kitchen.

Dining Room Set-Up and Greet 11am – 1pm: Set the tables, decorate the dining room, and prepare beverages. Greet the guests and volunteers. Have them sign-in and give them a nametag.

Serve 12:30pm – 3pm: The host makes welcoming remarks and has someone say grace. Serve the meal (as plated by the kitchen crew). The host makes announcements throughout the meal, and starts a non-alcoholic champagne toast. Collect dirty dishes and bring to the kitchen between courses. Wrap and distribute flowers, party favor, and leftover food to the elders as they leave.

Clean-Up 1pm – 4pm: Clear, clean, and sanitize the dining room tables. Wash, rinse and sanitize the pots, pans, and dirty dishes. Clean and sanitize the countertops. Anything belonging to Little Brothers needs to be packed and returned to the office. Sweep and mop or vacuum the floors before leaving. Arrive at serving time to eat and enjoy a meal with the elderly before starting cleanup.

Transport Guests, arrive at dinner site at 12:30pm: Pick up elderly guests and drive them to and from the dinner party. Greet them at their door and assist them to and from the vechicle. Once you are assigned your passengers, call them the day before with your expected arrival time. Greet them at their door and assist them to and from the vechicle. Arrive at the dinner party about 1/2 hour early.

Meal Delivery 12:45pm: Pick up 2 or 3 hot meals to deliver to a home-bound elder. Plan to stay for a short visit – you may be their only visitor for the day. Please limit yourself to just 2 or 3 deliveries. If you have more time, return to the site for more.

Entertain 12:30pm – 3pm: Provide musical entertainment as guests arrive and throughout the meal. Take a break when the meal is served to eat with the elderly guests.

NURSING HOME SITE JOB DESCRIPTION

2017 during facility construction:

Home Visit (pick up gift and flower from Little Brothers between 9am and 2pm) – Visit a couple of elderly friends at the Medical Care Facility. A gift and flower will be provided by Little Brothers. Plan to visit the elder for a short while – you may be their only visitor for the day and they are unable to attend the sit-down dinner we normally host in the multi-purpose room of their facility due to building renovations.

HOME MEAL DELIVERY SITE JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Wash, rinse and sanitize the pots and pans. Clean and sanitize the countertops. Anything belonging to Little Brothers needs to be packed and returned to the office. Sweep and mop or vacuum the floors before leaving. Must be age 13 and older to work in the kitchen.

Dining Room Set-Up & Distribution 10am – 2pm: Set the tables for the home-delivered meal distribution, assist with assembling the cold food trays, have volunteers sign in, distribute meals to the volunteers to deliver. Clean and sanitize the tables. Anything that belongs to Little Brothers needs to be packed and returned to the office. Sweep and mop or vacuum the floors before leaving.

HOLIDAY SITE MANAGERS

The Holiday Site Managers are responsible for ensuring the holiday party meets Little Brothers’ standards in providing a homemade meal to elderly friends. You can choose to manage the kitchen, the dining room or both. This position requires organization and the ability to delegate jobs to fellow volunteers.

Training: Holiday site management can be overwhelming but we will arm you with the necessary information. Attend a pre-holiday meeting and meet with the Program Director for individual instruction.

Time commitment: One holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter) per year.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Oversee meal preparation, serving and clean-up in the kitchen
  • Observe all food safety requirements
  • Oversee home-delivered meal distribution
  • Coordinate dining room set-up, serving and clean-up
  • Host! Make welcoming remarks and announcements throughout the meal.
  • Maintain records by signing-in guests and volunteers.
