Program Manager, Marquette County, MI – Position Open July 2017
Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly.
Our founder, Armand Marquiset, saw a poverty of the spirit among his elderly neighbors after the Second World War in France prompting him to share meals and celebrate special occasions with them. From those small gestures, he envisioned providing friendship to as many elderly people and places as possible. “I saw Little Brothers spreading across the earth igniting little fires of love,” he said.
The Upper Michigan Chapter has been serving Houghton and Keweenaw Counties since 1982. Following our founder’s dream, we have since expanded our services to Ontonagon, Baraga and Marquette Counties. We began providing holiday meals in Marquette in 2013 serving a modest 34 elderly friends. Today we serve meals to over 130 elders.
Our growth necessitates opening a branch in the city of Marquette where the Program Manager will be responsible for cultivating our Holiday Meal and Friendly Visiting Programs through community outreach and volunteer recruitment.
This position requires a strong communicator who is comfortable speaking to large groups as well as one-on-one, is detail oriented, can prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, and has excellent computer skills. This position also requires an individual who enjoys working with volunteers and elderly people and who understands the dynamics of aging or is willing to learn.
