Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly Upper Michigan Chapter has launched a new initiative, MISSION IN MOTION,” to combat isolation and loneliness during the COVID-19 outbreak. New programming includes Virtual Activities, Telephone Reassurance, and Friendship Mail.

Social Distancing may slow the spread of COVID-19 but it can come at the cost of LONELINESS. These programs allow volunteers to engage with our elderly Forever Friends to relieve their loneliness and create friendships.

Virtual Activities include weekly conference calls with small groups of our elderly Forever Friends who have interests in Music, Visual Relaxation, Trivia, Reading, and Poetry.

Telephone Reassurance allows our elderly Forever Friends to stay connected to their community and neighbors while engaging in friendly and calming conversation.

Friendship Mail encourages the thoughtful sharing of letters, greeting cards, refrigerator art, and more.

Volunteers are needed to participate in our new programming, provide pick-up and delivery service of prescriptions and groceries, and volunteers to drive our elderly friends to and from their doctor appointments. Please click here for more Mission in Motion volunteer opportunities.

Please call Carol Korpela at 906-482-6944 or email carol.korpela@littlebrothers.org to volunteer.

During this time, we want to remind everyone to check on your elderly neighbors. If you find someone in urgent need, please call Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly at 906-482-6944.
